Philipp Estermann to take over management of the Valsana Hotel

Arosa, (24 October 2023). The Tschuggen Collection is pleased to announce that the Valsana Hotel Arosa will be under new management from February 2024. In Philipp Estermann, the Valsana Hotel gains a natural hospitality professional with a passion for hosting and many years’ experience in the international luxury hotel industry. Estermann will relocate to Arosa at the start of 2024 with his wife Stephanie, their two sons Fritz and Max and the couple’s newborn baby.

After training as a hotelier and restaurateur at the Thun Hotel Management School in Switzerland, Estermann spent his early professional career in leading hotels such as The Setai Miami, The Dolder Grand in Zurich and Giardino Mountain in Champfèr-St. Moritz. He was appointed Deputy General Manager at luxury Swiss ski hotel The Chedi Andermatt in 2015 before moving to Amsterdam three years later, where he bore strategic and operational responsibility for the opening of the Soho House in the Dutch capital. In the years that followed, Estermann served as General Manager of the Alila Seminyak in Bali. He returned to his native Switzerland at the end of 2020 and currently serves as Director of Operations for the 50 establishments of the Swiss Youth Hostels network. He will continue to hold this position until moving to Arosa.

The 41-year-old Swiss is eagerly anticipating the responsibility of his new role as well as, of course, his return to the Grisons mountains. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to manage one of Switzerland’s most sustainable hotels, and am honoured that the Tschuggen Collection has placed its trust in me to do so,” he says. “Together with my family, I’m looking forward to getting settled in Arosa, getting to know my new team and tackling the exciting challenges ahead.”

As of 1 February 2024, Estermann will take over the management of the Valsana Hotel from Claudio Laager, whom we thank for his passionate and dedicated management of the hotel in recent years. Laager will leave the Tschuggen Collection at his own request at the end of November 2023 to take up residence in the Engadin, his native home.
